Phoenix Breast Reduction
Women with very large breasts sometimes suffer from neck and back pain, breathing problems, skin irritation and skeletal deformities due to the strain of additional weight.
Women experiencing these medical problems can benefit from Mammoplasty, of breast reduction. Dr.Robert Marouk performs expert breast reduction procedures on women in the Phoenix area who wish to reduce breast size. The procedure makes the breasts smaller, firmer and lighter by removing skin, fat and glandular tissues. The areola’s size can also be reduced. Ultimately, the breasts should be smaller and better-shaped in proportion with the body following the procedure.
Rather than for cosmetic improvements, physical relief is the main goal of breast reduction. Most women get the surgery in order to relieve the trouble that comes with very large sagging breasts, including physical discomfort and restricted activities.
Typically only women with fully developed breasts are candidates for breast reduction surgery, but exceptions can be made if large breasts are causing substantial physical discomfort. Candidates should be mature enough to have a full understanding of the procedure and have realistic expectations when it comes to results. Beast reduction surgery may not be a good option for women intending to breast feed.

Breast reduction leaves permanent scars in the bra or bathing suit area. Patients may also be left with slightly mismatched breasts or uneven nipple positioning. It may not be possible to breast feed after the surgery, because many milk ducts are removed during the procedure.
Techniques for beast reduction vary, but commonly an incision is made around the areola that extends downward following the breast crease’s natural curve. Dr. Marouk removes excess glandular tissue, fat and skin and re-positions the nipple and areola. The skin from both sides of the breast is then brought down and around the areola, which re-contours the breast. If necessary, excess fat from the armpit area can be removed with liposuction.
Stitches are often near the areola and extend downward in a vertical line, and are also commonly along the breast’s lower crease. The horizontal scarring can sometimes be removed depending on which technique is used. And breast size can be reduced by liposuction alone if removing only fat, which usually leaves minimal scars.
Breast Reduction Recovery
It’s recommended that patients sleep with their upper body slightly elevated for a few nights after the surgery, and pain medication is also prescribed for added comfort during recovery. An ace wrap is initially placed around the chest after the procedure, and the following day this wrap will be replaced by a sports bra, which many patients find more comfortable. The sports bra is worn for about three weeks after the surgery.
If possible, it’s recommended to take off a few days of work following surgery, and there should be no straining or heavy lifting for at least two weeks. Any sutures that aren’t dissolvable will need to be removed. Patients can usually move around after a few days, including raising arms above the head. The more you move your arms, the sooner the tight feeling will fade.
